Job Title: Assistant Cook
Organization: Plaza Community Services
Salary: $15.42 / hour
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Plans and prepares foods in accordance with the CACFP menus and recipes.
Purchases food and supplies necessary to prepare the planned menus for the number of enrolled children and program staff.
Plans meals far enough ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary, with prior approval, purchases and serves food of equivalent nutritional value. With guidance from the Food Program Monitor, modifies menus for children's field trips; notes all modifications and substitutes on the posted menu and for CACFP records.
Prepare meals and snacks in such a way that a minimum of nutrients are lost from foods, that ensure foods taste good and look appealing, and that there are ample amounts of foods for children to have as many servings as they need.
Maintains established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments; maintains an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in organizing, preparing, and serving meals to the children and staff.
Operate and maintain the culinary equipment, supplies, and work area.
Assist in recording the number of children and adults served at each sitting and the amount of food prepared.
Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
Keep the kitchen, food preparation areas and all eating supplies clean and sanitary. Adhere to the guidelines of food sanitation and safe food handling practices set by the Public Health Department.
Assist in maintaining an inventory of pantry stock and order food necessary to serve complete meals to children and provide requirements set by the CACFP.
Assist in receiving, dating, and storing all food purchased by the center.
Responsible for carrying out specific instructions in preparing meals according to established menus.
Attend relevant training as needed.
Properly cleans and sanitizes cooking utensils, kitchen appliances, kitchen work area, and food storage areas.
All other duties as assigned.
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Certificate for Food Handling (renew every two years).
Graduation from high school or equivalent is desirable.
Possess knowledge and basic principles of good nutrition.
Knowledge of Child and Adult Care Food Program.
