Job Title: Facilitator for Virtual Focus Groups with CACFP Independent Centers

Job Description: This is a short-term, volunteer position requiring time outside-of-normal business hours. We estimate the time commitment to be 10-15 hours over the course of 3 months (August-October 2021). A small stipend is available to support your efforts. We are looking for an individual who has experience and expertise in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and is comfortable with public speaking and facilitating a discussion about experiences operating the CACFP as an independent center contracting directly with the state of California as well as with sponsoring organizations.

About the Project: The CACFP Roundtable is collaborating with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to ensure a smooth transition of CACFP from the California Department of Education (CDE) to CDSS. In addition to the smooth transition, the CACFP Roundtable is informing CDSS about existing strengths and opportunities for improvement within the administration of the CACFP. The purpose of this specific activity is to: (1) identify challenges experienced by unaffiliated child care centers that participate in CACFP directly through the state (i.e., independent centers ), (2) identify challenges experienced by unaffiliated child care centers that participate in CACFP with a sponsoring organization (i.e., independent centers with CACFP Sponsors) and (3) advise the CACFP Roundtable in informing the CDSS as CACFP administration transitions from the CDE.

Roles and Responsibilities: We are looking for a peer facilitator to engage with and guide our focus group participants to ensure a comfortable conversation about the experience of independent center CACFP administrators in California. All activities will be performed virtually via Zoom.

  • Attend a training focused on equity to ensure an equitable approach/lens to the focus group facilitation;

  • Guide discussions, encouraging group participants to share their thoughts and opinions about the topics at hand without influencing their opinions or giving the facilitator/moderator’s

  • opinion;

  • Ensure the discussion runs smoothly, stays on track, and delivers the type of information needed;

  • Lead focus group participant discussions;

  • Strong competency using computers and Zoom;

  • Strong facilitation and communication skills; and

  • Strong knowledge of the CACFP in California.
