Job Title: Food Service Manager

Job Description:

Oversees and manages food services for Head Start and Early Head Start programs, including planning meals following USDA guidelines, food preparation, inventory control and daily delivery to school sites. Manages food services budget, food inventory, vendors, and maintenance of kitchen and delivery vehicles.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversees operations related to nutrition and food services, including setting goals, directing staff and controlling budgets, evaluates and assesses program components to ensure goals and standards are met, interacts with the public and provides customer service by phone, email and in person, prepares correspondence, reports, records and other paperwork, and ensures program databases and recordkeeping files related to food services are in order.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience

  • Associate degree required, preferable in nutrition, food service management, dietetics, hospitality management, or a related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

  • Three (3) years’ experience in management or high quantity food production, preferably with young children, as well as experience in safety and sanitation, commercial food service equipment and experience in a production kitchen

  • Prior supervision experience is highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in nutrition services and food service management and the ability to work with the enrolled population.

  • Knowledge to effectively administer and follow all Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations and expertise in menu development, food production, food service operation, food safety, and food cost analysis.

  • Knowledge of the California Retail Food Code

  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and organization skills, be a team player and a passionate advocate for children’s well-being, be able to work with diverse populations, to supervise staff and provide leadership for children’s nutrition and wellness.

  • Training and public speaking skills needed.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus, but not required
